It’s Another Exciting Issue of Exposition!

For anyone who’s still reading The Boys, it’s another exciting issue of Exposition! It’s no secret to anyone that Garth Ennis can’t plot without having 5000 asides, but the latest issue is typical of the problem with The Boys in particular and Garth Ennis in general. It’s not a bad issue, it however has no superheroes in it and is nothing more than backstory for Mother’s Milk, a character whose name turns out to mean that he needs mother’s milk to survive, specifically his own mother’s milk. Well what do you expect, it’s Garth Ennis we’re talking about. About all the issue really does is keep repeating how evil Vought American is. To give Garth Ennis some credit, he doesn’t do it by showing that Vought American’s CEO is a Nazi pervert, which is his usual idea of villain character development. But he’s already had one Nazi pervert appear and get killed, so I’m guessing the Vought American CEO Nazi pervert thing will have to wait till later. Strip away the references to superpowers and the story is all exposition and backstory that could have been lifted from just about any corporate corruption movie. Meanwhile the main story is only moving forward in Herogasm, which is some kind of flashback or flashforward, which leaves Garth Ennis free to waste more time.
