Okay firstly now Bad Robots is producing? Talk about bad news. Then the age gap is wrong. McCoy was older than Kirk. DeForrest Kelley alone was 10 years old than William Shatner. In one potential story McCoy’s daughter was going to come on board and Kirk would seduce her. If they were 3 years apart, then when exactly did McCoy have this daughter?

This isn’t an obsession with canon, it’s just pointing an authenticity to the characters as depicted on Star Trek. This incidentally also rules out Matt Damon likely who is 37 and well out of the 28-32 range suggesting that he knew what he was talking about when he said he was too old for the part, rather than just being coy.

[UHURA] 25ish -African American. Brilliant, beautiful, heroic and FUN!, Uhura is almost tom-boyish - as if she grew up in a houseful of brothers.

Tomboyish and FUN! (with all caps too.) Why do I feel vaguely nauseated? Uhura was feminine, not tomboyish. I understand the need to overcompensate for the perceived inferior way she was portrayed on the show and to play up to the whole girl power thing but the movies displayed Uhura as someone tough and strong minded and still feminine. This is just stupid and it’s overplaying it. Not to mention the idea that they all knew each other in their 20’s is dubious at best. What did they spend their entire Starfleet careers together?

And 25 ish? What the heck is 25ish. You’re either 25 or you’re not.

[SULU] 25-32 -Asian American male (preferably Japanese). Helmsman on the Enterprise. Extremely fit, capable and dedicated. A bit of a wildcat

Whatever the heck the last part means. And Sulu now has an age range 3 years younger than Kirk. Sense this makes none. Let me guess, Pavel is 25ish too?

[MONTGOMERY(SCOTTY) SCOTT] -28-32 a brilliant ship’s engineer. Must be able to do a flawless Scottish accent!

Umm yeah that’s the priority. I hate to break the news to ye laddies but tens of thousands of actors can do flawless Scottish accents. Scotland is full of them. It’s telling that the casting doesn’t even bother to mention features or character. Because all Scotty is, is an accent. A gimmick.

Sad but I expected nothing else.
