The Coming of the Neuromancer

Neuromancer was arguably William Gibson’s coolest book, before he began writing the same novel over and over again with minor variations on the same theme. So a Neuromancer movie sounds like a cool idea though really Virtual Light would be yet cooler and more cinematic– but just please keep Keanu Reeves far away from it. Of course the 70 million dollar budget and the music video director sure ain’t inspiring any confidence in me. After all this kind of thing has already been done before and cheapo takes on cyberpunk with music video stylings isn’t exactly what anyone is looking for. Maybe besides keanu himself.

The odd thing is that William Gibson has never really been properly adapted even if the Matrix trilogy was arguably his work, even if not ‘his’ work. Maybe Neuromancer will change that or maybe it’ll be another disposable and forgettable B Movie. I wish I could have more confidence that it wasn’t the latter.
